When a tooth has been severely damaged or has suffered from advanced decay and cannot be fixed with bonding materials, a dental crown is utilized. This restoration option helps restore the tooth’s strength, function, and esthetics by covering the remaining tooth. Crowns can be made from several materials, depending on the area of the mouth being restored.
If you have suffered tooth loss due to decay, injury, or gum disease, a dental bridge may be used to restore your dental health. If left uncorrected, a missing tooth can have a greater impact on your oral health. It can cause the teeth next to the missing tooth (or teeth) to shift, which can look unsightly and result in pain and discomfort. A dental bridge will help close any gaps in your mouth and looks and acts just like natural teeth. It helps maintain the position of your remaining natural teeth because it is permanently cemented to adjacent teeth.
Tooth Colored Fillings
Tooth-colored or composite fillings provide a more conservative option compared to silver/amalgam fillings. A filling helps restore tooth function after cavities and decay have been removed. Composite materials are strong and durable materials which can withstand the forces of chewing. This type of filling can be carefully matched to your natural tooth color to ensure it is virtually undetectable. In addition, it helps save natural tooth structure, improve stability and strength, and protects against broken teeth.
Composite fillings are a great restoration option for both children and adults.
Dentures & Partials
Dentures and partials can provide a great restoration option for individuals missing some or all of their teeth. Partials are recommended to patients who still retain some of their natural teeth. Full dentures are recommended for patients who are missing most or all of their natural teeth. Both of these options help restore your smile, and may even give you a better smile than you had before. We will work with you to find the option which fits your dental health needs.
Inlays & Onlays
If your teeth have been affected by damage or decay, inlays and onlays are methods for restoring structure to your teeth. Both are custom-made fillings which strengthen the tooth, allowing it to withstand higher chewing force. An inlay or onlay can be made from a variety of materials including gold, composite material, or tooth-colored porcelain. These are ideal alternatives to crowns because less tooth structure is removed in preparation for the restoration.
An inlay is like a filling in function, but differs in structure. Rather than using packed composite material to repair a tooth, an inlay is a solid piece of material cemented to the tooth. An onlay is essentially identical to an inlay, but it covers a larger portion of the chewing surface. Onlays can be utilized to conservatively repair teeth that have large defective fillings or have been damaged by trauma or decay.
Veneers are typically made out of porcelain and are used to correct gaps, spaces, or other imperfections in your smile. The veneer is bonded to the front of the teeth to enhance your smile and is custom-made in a dental laboratory. This is a durable restoration option which can help completely reshape your teeth and give you the smile you’ve been dreaming of. Veneers look and feel like your natural teeth, are stain-resistant, and offer patients a permanent restoration option.
